# Create your Payabli user account

> Learn how to complete your account setup and configure MFA when you're invited to the Payabli Portal

When an administrator invites you to the Payabli Portal, you'll receive an email with a temporary password and a link. Follow the link to set up your account, including multi-factor authentication (MFA), before you can log in.

## Before you begin

You'll need an authenticator app installed on your phone or a password manager with time-based one-time password (TOTP) support. Any TOTP-compatible app works.

## Create your account

To create your account:

1. Open the invitation email from Payabli. It contains your login link, your account email address, and a temporary password.
2. Click the login link and sign in with your temporary password.
3. Enter your user profile information:
   * Full name
   * Phone number
   * Time zone
4. Create a new permanent password.
5. Set up MFA.

Once you configure MFA, you'll have access to the Payabli Portal.

### Set up MFA

Multi-factor authentication requires you to authenticate with a second method each time you login, in addition to your password. Payabli uses TOTP: a 6-digit code generated by an authenticator app that rotates on a short interval.

1. When you reach the MFA setup screen, open your authenticator app.
2. Scan the QR code displayed in the Portal, or click **Enter Code Manually** to type in the key instead.
3. Your app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter it in the Portal to confirm the setup.

SMS-based MFA is available, but requires use of the API to manage user authentication.

After setup, you'll enter a 6-digit code from your authenticator app each time you log in. If you lose access to your authenticator, contact your administrator to [reset your MFA from the User Management page](/guides/pay-ops-portal-users-manage).
